Penn

This village has long associations with the Penn family. William Penn was the founder and first governor of Pennsylvania. The last male heir of the family died unmarried in 1731, but his sister married a direct ancestor of Earl Howe, who lives at nearby Penn Street. The poet John Betjeman called Penn village the ‘Chelsea of the Chilterns’.
